In 1968, the concession of Casino da Póvoa to Sopete defined an important milestone for the city, as the agreement included for the first time the participation of gambling in the development of Póvoa de Varzim.
In 1997, Sopete was acquired by Estoril Sol and, in 2001, it changed its name to Varzim Sol.
This development has provided, over the years, with the development of the municipality and an urban reconversion. It was also guided by the complete renovation of the building, support for different social solidarity institutions, support for entertainment and support for the arts.
